I, like many people out there took for granted what the term 21 days of "hard lockdown" really meant. I remember the day before the lockdown on a shop with hubby when he enquired if I wanted to "stock up", I'll be fine was my response and BOY was I wrong! To top it off the President then announced a further 15 day ban on alcohol making it 45 days.

By day 10 I was out of booze and so were you apparently. People started experimenting. We were soon bombarded by various ginger, apple and pineapple cider recipes but when a friend passed on their friend's drinks recipe booklet aptly named "LockDown Dranks" i started paying attention.

Lockdown Dranks is a beautifully curated drinks recipe book put together by Tsikwe Molobye and if, like me you've been curious about home brewing but have been too scared to start because where do you start right? Then this is the book for you.

Tsikwes's dream is that the ban on alcohol during lockdown inspires a new wave of home brewing and it's no wonder because this book doesn't claim to be anything it's not. It's simple and straightforward not pretentious.

In Lockdown Dranks, Tsikwe takes you through the abc's of home brewing, covering topics such fermentation, the equipment you will require as well as recipes for various ciders, wines and South African classics like Ginger Beer to make at home.

The recipes are detailed, easy to follow and also include a handy indicator of the approximate alcoholic percentage you can achieve from your brew.

So if you're curious about home brewing or you know someone that is this book is a perfect gift. The ebook costs R30 and you can buy it online at the Lockdown Dranks website. You can also watch Tsikwe demonstrating how to make the brews on his youtube channel Lockdown Dranks.
